Alabama Master Tree Farmer 2004
 program schedule announced

This Basic Master Tree Farmer program is designed for landowners and others who have in interest in managing forest resources. This workshop is an exceptional opportunity for you to learn how to practice sustainable forestry and how to manage the land to meet your objectives.

The course will be conducted in several Alabama counties: Barbour/Russell, Blount, Butler, Bullock, Choctaw, Covington, Fayette, Houston, Lamar, Madison, Marengo, Marshall, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston. Each location will have a Program Coordinator and a professional forester handling the program for their site. Speakers for each session will be presenting material to the group from Clemson, South Carolina. Presentations will be delivered live to sites in multiple states simultaneously via satellite. There will be a toll-free number that e-mail participants can use to ask questions of the presenters. Questions will also be handled at the local level.

Workshop sessions will be each Tuesday from February 3 to March 16, 2004. Sessions will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will last until 9:00 p.m. CST. Instructors and coordinators will be available through a toll-free number, email and on site until 9:30 p.m.

When you register, your county’s coordinator will send you information on the location for your county (normally at county extension office). Registrants will receive a comprehensive notebook with chapters on each topic and speaker’s notes for each presentation. You should receive this information two weeks before the meeting. Registration will need to be made a least three weeks in advance to be able to receive topic information. Refreshments will be provided each evening. Following is a list of the dates and topics of each course:

Persons completing five of the seven sessions will receive a certificate and a Master Tree Farmer cap. All presentations also qualify for Forest Masters (FM) Credits, Alabama’s forest landowner, stakeholder education and service recognition program. Also Professional Logging Manager (PLM) certificate holders will receive three CEUs for each approved session attended.
