Winner announced in the
“Name the Chicken Mascot” contest

During a press conference on Tuesday, November 30, 2004, the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce announced the winning entry in the “Name the Chicken Mascot” contest in association with the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival. “Nugget” was chosen as the official name of the chicken mascot. The chicken mascot will be visiting schools and other events to promote the festival to be held April 9-10, 2005 in Moulton.

entry. Eleven year old Sabrina is the daughter of Lisa and Dewayne Little, who are growers for Gold Kist. According to Vicki Morese, Director of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, “The Chamber received 98 entries, coming from all over Alabama. The names were very creative and it was hard to just select one, but Nugget was cute, imaginative, and just a smidgen better than the others. Being in the poultry industry was not a prerequisite for entering the contest; however, it is a bonus that the winner is from a poultry farm family.” Each entry submitted received a family four-pack to the festival with the winning entry receiving $100.

Sponsors of the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival consist of Alabama Farmers Cooperative, Alabama Propane Gas Association, Gold Kist, ALFA, Pepsi Cola, Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries, The Citizens Bank, CBS Bank, City of Moulton, and Family Security Credit Union. Education Partners are Alabama Cooperative Extension System, Auburn University Poultry Science Department, and UAH Engineering Department.
