FFA Events to Remember:

Alabama National Fair

October 6 – 15, 2006 – Montgomery

National FFA Convention
October 25 – 28, 2006 – Indianapolis, Indiana
The 79th National FFA Convention will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 25–28, 2006. This will be the first time for the city of Indianapolis to host the national convention.

More than 50,000 FFA members and guests will visit Conseco Fieldhouse, the RCA Dome, the Indianapolis Convention Center, and the Indiana State Fairgrounds during the week. There will be exciting general sessions with motivational speakers, special guests, and FFA members from around the nation being recognized for their outstanding achievements.

The speakers at the convention will include: Terry Bradshaw, former National Football League quarterback; Clark Kellogg, CBS Sports analyst; Mike Rayburn, speaker and entertainer known as the World’s Funniest Guitar Virtuoso; and Scott McKain, former national FFA officer, successful business professional, author, and commentator. Other highlights will include the career show, leadership development workshops for students and advisors, and the National Day of Service.

This is a time for FFA members, advisors, and supporters to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about themselves and the organization. It is an opportunity for members to take time to lead, set examples for others, and serve in the community. It is the FFA’s time to shine in a brand new city, and share what FFA really means.

Alabama attendees will need to meet for the following events. The first opportunity to assemble will be for the state photograph on Thursday, October 26, at 12:25 PM in the RCA Dome, adjacent to the Food Court. Next, we will meet our State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Joseph B. Morton, and the President of the Alabama Farmers Federation, Mr. Jerry Newby, who will be in attendance during this year’s convention on Thursday, October 26, and Friday, October 27. In order for them to meet with as many from our state as possible, we would like to have everyone meet on the Northeast corner of the RCA Dome at the steps on Capitol Avenue. We want a photo opportunity for the entire group in order to effectively publicize their attendance at the national convention.

Be sure to look in future issues of Cooperative Farming News for a follow-up to the 79th Annual National FFA Convention.

Jacob Davis is the Executive Secretary of the Alabama FFA Association.
