Dakota's First Buck!

These fine young men are the grandsons of Larry Murphy, manager of the Elgin Crossroads location of Lauderdale County Co-op. Pictured are Nichols, age 9; Nathan, age 4; Wil, age 6 and Maisy the dog, age unknown. Nathan sits on his John Deere tractor dreaming of one day being a farmer.         Pictured is Dakota Potts proudly displaying his first buck! Dakota is the son of AFC’s Secretarial Services Supervisor Cindy Potts. According to his dad, David, and grandfather, Buddy Stokes, Dakota made a perfect shot dropping the six point in his tracks.

Is there a secret to growing 12-ft. tomato plants?

James Russell, husband of AFC Executive Secretary Priscilla Russell, says his tomatoes bear more if you keep the plants off the ground. Here he is showing us some of his twelve-foot-tall Bonnie Better Boy tomato plants he grew this summer. According to Priscilla, he’s been growing them like this – in composted cow manure with a little MiracleGro and supported by concrete reinforcement wire cages – for about ten years. She says that he harvested 50-75 tomatoes a day from the 26 plants during the peak of the season and that they always have plenty to can and to give away to friends and neighbors.
