On November 16, 2011, Alabama PALS (People Against A Littered State) held the Alabama PALS Governor’s Awards at the Marriott at Capitol Hill in Prattville. Recognized were the state winners, along with winners of the Poster and Essay Contest. The students were honored for being good stewards of their environment and role models for the rest of the community. All these students pledged to make environmental planning a lifetime goal. The PALS Alabama Clean Campus Program and the students in schools all over Alabama help to make our world a cleaner place in which to live. PALS also recognized and thanked our sponsors Alabama Farmer Federation (Alfa) and Alabama Farmers Cooperative, Inc., (AFC) for their dedication and encouragement. The ALBA Middle School students from Mobile County in Bayou LaBatre placed first in the 2011 Alabama PALS Governor’s Awards nominations. They were nominated as the Statewide Clean Campus School. The ALBA Middle School students worked diligently to make their campus clean and beautiful. ALBA Middle School also captured the 1st place award with a $1,000 scholarship. The students recycle, compost a garden and maintain a butterfly garden. The program is going strong under the watchful and dedicated ALBA Club Sponsor, Lana McGuff. Lana won the Vulcan Volunteer Award of the Year.
