|“Don’t Drop It On Alabama” Statewide Spring Cleanup|
The 2011 "Don’t Drop It On Alabama" Spring Cleanup will be held on April 16-23. This annual statewide cleanup effort is sponsored by Alabama PALS (People Against A Littered State), a 501C3 organization whose mission statement is "Alabama communities working together for a clean and more beautiful Alabama." PALS chapters and groups, municipalities, counties, schools, local organizations, civic groups and other volunteer groups from every corner of Alabama will participate in this 2011 effort.
The title sponsor for the 2011 cleanup effort is Honda Manufacturing of Alabama. Other sponsors for the week-long cleanup event are Alfa, ALDOT, Vulcan Materials Company and Alabama Farmers Cooperative. Spencer Ryan, Executive Vice President, stated, "The support and stewardship shown from each of our Corporate Sponsors enables PALS to plan, coordinate and implement this annual cleanup effort. It is because of this support we are able to provide each participating group the support and materials crucial to coordinating a successful cleanup effort."
All participating groups receive large bags, tee shirts, ad slicks, reporting forms, brochures and other support materials from Alabama PALS.
Ryan also stated, "With the addition of several new counties like Franklin, Escambia, Randolph, Fayette, Dallas, Sumter and Bibb, as well as participation from entities like Fort Rucker, the 2011 cleanup should prove to be the largest statewide cleanup to date. As with any cleanup effort, the volunteers are the ones to be commended, as the man hours they dedicate to these efforts not only save taxpayers millions of dollars in cleanup costs, but also create local and state pride, which affects tourism and economic development."
Other programs offered through Alabama PALS are the Alabama Adopt A Mile program, Alabama Adopt A Stream program, Alabama Clean Campus and Scholarship Program, Alabama Coastal Cleanup, Adopt An Area and other litter prevention programs designed for Alabama communities.
