Release from Alabama Cattlemen’s Association

Donna Jo Curtis, Athens, was named president of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association (ACA) during the annual meeting held March 31, 2012, in Huntsville. She is the second female to lead the statewide cattlemen’s organization.

Curtis has been involved in raising beef cattle all of her life. She grew up on a family farm in Limestone County where she was actively involved in the farming program. She graduated from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) with a B.S. in Animal Science. Donna Jo lives and works on the farm and manages a cow-calf program running 120 mama cows.

Donna Jo has served 17 years on the Limestone County Cattlemen’s Association Board of Directors and was county president in 2002 and 2003. Curtis was elected as an ACA Regional Vice President for a three-year term beginning in 2003. The Limestone County Chapter has increased in membership each year Donna Jo has served on the board and is now the largest county chapter in the state. She also serves on the County Farm Services Agency Board.

An active member of the Church of Christ, Donna Jo is very involved with their youth program. Starting when her children were young, she and John have continued to host 15 to 25 youth from the church at their farm home every Sunday and Wednesday nights.

She is married to John Curtis, general manager of Limestone Farmers Co-op. He recently became general manager for the Giles County Farmers Co-ops in Tennessee as well.

Donna Jo and John have three children. Lauren graduated from MTSU and is teaching AgriScience at Ardmore High School. She is married to Brett Graham. They have a daughter and live on their farm in Lincoln County, Tenn. Donna Jo and John also have twins, Landon and Landria. They are seniors at Auburn University majoring in Agriculture.
