Christmas
times a coming, Christmas times a coming! What a wonderful time of the
year. We all have childhood memories of a time of family, giving and
sharing during the Christmas Holiday. The lights are quite beautiful as
we drive through town or down country lanes, the smells of pine or
cedar, if you still use a natural tree, or the smell of your favorite
food.
Turkey,
ham, steaks, pies, cakes or other specialties make us excited that
Christmas is here. Then you have the smell of spices and candles flowing
through the house, office and malls. The brain is a true miracle as we
think how it processes these smells that I have just mentioned. Did the
thought of these different things bring back memories to you of past
days and wonderful holiday times?
The
bright colors and the beautiful music also add to the season. I sure
hope that you take the time to enjoy the true meaning of Christmas this
year.
I
would like to say THANK YOU to all of the thousands of Adult Volunteers
that give to 4-H every year. Without great adult leadership, we would
not be able to share in the growth and education of Alabama’s Youth.
Many
long hours and resources are donated to the efforts of 4-H. So often we
take for granted the impact this has on the lives and future of these
young individuals.
November
brought great news to the 4-Hers of Alabama. We have been told that four
new positions will be added to the 4-H Youth and Development REA list as
well as a State Specialist to be housed in Auburn. The new positions
will allow the current REAs to reduce the number of counties that they
now have and give them more time in the counties that they are now
assigned. This will help strengthen the 4-H work in each of the 67
counties of Alabama.
If
you want to see the current 4-H Youth and Development REA map go to the
4-H web site at http://www.aces.edu/fourh/
and click on Regional sites. If you or someone you know might be
interested in working to encourage and build our youth, check out Auburn’s
Extension web site at https://ssl.acesag.auburn.edu/posannc/search.php3.
Have
a great ending to your 2006 and make sure you take the time to make
memories with your family and friends. 2007 will soon be here, so plan
to help with your local 4-H clubs and get a great sense of pride and
accomplishment developing our youth. The smiles are worth a million
dollars.
Until
next time, God Bless!
