The 2007 trail ride raised
over $13,000. The weather was sunny, bright and comfortable. Alabama
Farmers Cooperative (AFC) was a title sponsor for the event and provided
t-shirts for the participants. After a fun-filled, three-hour ride the
participants returned to camp for a wonderful lunch of barbeque chicken
and pork with all the trimmings provided by CUNA Mutual Group. With full
tummies, the riders kicked back and prepared themselves for the live
entertainment. Entertainment was what they got, there were plenty of
smiles and lots of hand clapping and toe tapping! Natchez Trace did a
wonderful job entertaining the crowd; it was evident this was not their
first attempt to please a crowd!
The trail ride finished up
with a very successful silent auction. Bidders were generous when they
purchased items to benefit the American Cancer Society.
The outpouring of support
from the community in 2007 was amazing; over 250 people came out to
support the annual event. The Cowboy Up For a Cure Trail Ride is one of
the largest fundraising events FSCU hosts annually. The event has been
successful over the past three years due to the dedication and
determination of our team members. FSCU team members help plan the trail
ride and obtain sponsors who assist with the expenses. The team members
at FSCU spend many hours of volunteer time planning the event in order
to make it successful.
As always Ken and Carol
McDonald, the owners of KC Ranch, play a big part in the success of the
trail ride. There are a few new trails for the 2008 season; the ranch
has a cabin and a fully-enclosed pavilion with windows and a fireplace.
Camping facilities are available for an additional cost. Nice bath
houses, full hookups, primitive camping sites and covered stalls are
available. You may make your reservations by calling (205) 489-5474.
Camp sites are limited so reserve your site early.
AFC will again be a title
sponsor for this year’s event. As November approaches, please mark
your calendar and make plans to attend the 2008 Cowboy Up For a Cure
Trail Ride. Come join FSCU for a fun-filled day. Cancer continues to
take its toll on people of all ages: babies, toddlers, adolescents,
young adults and mature adults. Their battles to fight the disease can
be long and difficult. The victims of the disease do the hard part:
suffer from the pain caused by the disease, take the treatment and
endure the sickness from the side effects, yet they continue to fight!
Will you please help FSCU do the easier part: find the cure? You can
make a difference.
