Four
years ago Bonnie Plant Farm started a Cabbage Program for third grade
students in Alabama. Since then it has expanded throughout the
continental United States. This year for the first time ever, Bonnie
offered a $1,000.00 scholarship to one very lucky student from each
participating state as part of their annual Cabbage Program.
In
December, Bonnie sent out letters to elementary schools. They had
response from 42 states. Each third grade student at a participating
school received a cabbage plant. This spring, Bonnie’s salesmen
delivered over 600,000 plants nationwide and approximately 40,000 plants
in the state of Alabama alone.
The
third grade teachers selected a class winner based upon the size of the
cabbage head and sent the required information to Bonnie’s home office
in Union Springs, Alabama, by July 15, 2005.
The
applications will be divided by state and taken to each state’s
agriculture department where a student will be selected by random
drawing. Bonnie will post a photo of each winner and their cabbage on
their website (www.
bonnieplants.com) as they receive the information. |
