Part
of what makes the Marion Rodeo so much fun and exciting is the
participation events for spectators: "mutton bustin’" for
the kids, "Little Wrangler" presentation where parents can see
their kids ride in the Dodge truck and "Wild Horse Race" where
anyone can make up a team of three and attempt to ride an unbroken horse
across the finish line.
"It’s
watching kids you know participate in the ‘Gold Rush’ and ‘Calf
Scramble’ that makes it worth coming out and watching year after
year," said Robert Hoggle.
Additionally,
the traditional events include barrel racing, bareback-bronc riding,
team and breakaway calf roping, steer wrestling and the famous bull
riding.
Professional
Cowboy Association (PCA) cowboys and cowgirls will be traveling from all
over the Southeast to pit their skills against 3-R’s championship
stock.
Traditionally,
the rodeo committee selects an organization to benefit from the rodeo.
This year’s proceeds will be given to the recreational programs at the
Perry County Nursing Home and the Southland Nursing Home, both in
Marion.
Be
sure to mark your calendars for June 8-9 when the gates of the Ralph
Eagle Memorial Arena will open at 6 p.m. Children’s events begin at 7
p.m. and the main events at 8 p.m.
