wind, April showers… yadda, yadda, yadda…
So
a lot of our lakes we depend on for drinking water are at or near
full-pool right now. If we don’t continue getting our fair share of
rain, we are going to be in trouble again this year!
Please
allow me this opportunity to remind you there is only a certain amount
of water on our little blue Earth. It is up to us, if we want to
continue our invasive existence with nature, to be better stewards when
it comes to our natural resources like water.
Here
are a couple of tips for conserving and collecting. Don’t waste time
in the shower. Place a five gallon bucket in the shower with you and let
the water fill it as it is coming up to the desirable temperature. You
can use this water to flush toilets or to water your plants. If you are
in the shower then you should be rubbing that wash cloth around your
body and NOT just standing there letting the water run off of you and
down the drain. Get into the shower; clean yourself in an efficient
military-type fashion and GET OUT!
Do
NOT allow the water to run in the basin while you are moving your tooth
brush up and down or your shaver across your skin. Think about this
folks. What is the purpose of letting the water run while you are doing
these things? People waste between nine and ten gallons of water while
brushing their teeth because they don’t care about conserving. Ten
gallons twice per day, times…how many people live in your house? Let’s
say three folks live there. The math says you are wasting 60 gallons per
day. That comes to 21,900 gallons per year! What if you lived in a
neighborhood with 500 homes full of wasteful people? That would be
10,950,000 gallons per year! Nearly 1 million gallons per month wasted
because you won’t turn off the water while you brush your teeth! Do
the math and see what would be wasted by the number of folks who live in
your city or county! Wow!
Finally;
place buckets under the drip line or down spout to catch rainwater for
watering your plants this spring and summer. That’s like putting money
in your pocket! Mother Nature is giving you a bonus, so take it!
