2007 National FFA Week
By
Philip Paramore
National
FFA Week is a time to recognize members and advisors from all across the
nation. It is also an opportunity to promote FFA and many of the
accomplishments of the organization. |

FFA
chapters from all across the state recently celebrated National FFA Week
in various ways. The Marbury Chapter appeared on a television news
broadcast; the Montevallo Chapter held an annual Farm/City Day for
elementary students; the Jacksonville Chapter submitted articles to
local newspapers, while the Spring Garden Chapter thanked their local
farmers in the community with an appreciation breakfast. Many other
similar activities were replicated by numerous chapters from all across
the state and each of these activities highlight the best FFA has to
offer.

included
a fast-paced tour of Montgomery on Tuesday, February 20, 2007. The day
began with a breakfast/visit with Mr. Jerry Newby at the Alabama Farmers
Federation. Next we dropped in to see Troy King, State Attorney General,
and Sam Shaw, State Auditor. We then met with Johnny Adams and Wes
Cumbie of the Alabama Poultry & Egg Association. Lunch was provided
by the Alabama Forestry Association followed by a visit with Chris
Isaacson, Chris Erwin, and Rick Oates. After lunch, we went to see Dr.
Billy Powell and Reid Blossom with the Alabama Cattlemen’s
Association. Then we returned to the Governor’s office at the State
Capitol where we received a signed Proclamation on National FFA Week in
Alabama. Our last stop was the Alabama Department of Agriculture and
Industries, where we met with Ron Sparks, Commissioner of Agriculture,
and received a tour of the on-site facilities by Scott Abesher.

I
would like to thank Paul Pinyan and Brandon Moore with the Alabama
Farmers Federation for scheduling these visits for the State FFA
Officers and accompanying the officers throughout the day. I would also
like to thank all of the people who took time out
|
|
of their busy
schedules to meet with our officers. Our organization has many other
groups that sponsor us and I wish there was enough
time to visit each of them during every year, but the limitations of
time and schedules doesn’t permit that to happen. We do, however, have
a list of our sponsors, such as Alabama Farmers Cooperative, on our
website,
http://www.alabamaffa.org,
as a small way to show our appreciation for their tremendous support of
youth development.
