Chances are that if an employee has waited on you in the Jackson Farmers Co-op store in Scottsboro in the last 40 years, it was Truman Benson (seated in photo). Benson came to work for the Co-op in 1966 after serving during the Korean War. According to manager, Ken
Shrader, many people shop at the Co-op “because Truman is there.” Benson has always been close to the land having been reared the son of a Woods Cove share-cropper, “We all worked on the farm. Daddy kept us busy all the time.” About 100 showed up for a retirement reception for Benson held at the Scottsboro store for customers and friends to bid him farewell.
