During
a press conference held on December 6, organizers of the Alabama Chicken
and Egg Festival announced Pure Prairie League has been selected as the
headliner band for the 2008 event. Pure Prairie League entered the music
world in 1971 with their self-titled debut album and introduced the
world to "pedal steel guitar." One of the band’s most
recognized songs, "Amie," has endured as a classic and is
still being played today.
Their
debut album also introduced the Norman Rockwell cowboy "Sad
Luke." Other recognizable songs include "Let Me Love You
Tonight" which reached #1 in 1980 and "Two Lane Highway."
"Pure
Prairie League’s music is timeless," said Event Coordinator Vicki
Morese. "They sound as good today as they did in the 70s. I think
their performance during the Festival will bring back a lot of good
memories, especially for baby boomers."
Where
everything chicken is celebrated, the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival
highlights include a chicken clucking contest, where the audience
selects the winner; egg toss competition, a favorite among children and
eating contests where contestants stuff their faces with chicken wings
and hardboiled eggs. Attendees also have the opportunity to see over 100
chickens representing 25 different varieties with the live bantam
chicken display.
This
year’s festival is set for April 12 & 13 at the Lions Club
Fairgrounds in Moulton. Admission to the festival is only $2 per person
and free for those under five years old.
